Help! I’m a Teenager, Get me a Career! 2018

This year the Bucksburn Academy Parent Council are building on the success of the Careers Event in 2017! Help! I’m a Teenager, Get me a Career! will provide pupils & parents with all the information required to plan for what happens after school. There will be information talks on choosing your future career, applying for jobs, apprenticeships & further education as well as information stalls from a number of organisations.

Menu of talks:

1. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

Are you interested in finding out more about what it would be like to follow a career path which requires knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths? What types of career need STEM skills – come along and find out what careers would be there for you. Talk delivered by STEM Ambassadors.


Come and listen to a successful apprentice tell you their story. What opportunities and experiences has it led to? Why did they decide to take the apprentice route and could the same be there for you? There have never been so many opportunities to earn and learn at the same time in a wide range of employment sectors at all levels! Talk delivered by Ryan Fernando & Ewan Currie of Aker Solutions.


Do you know that opportunities are available to you at the local College? Do you know that North East Scotland College has fantastic links with employers and Universities and offers a vast range of vocational qualifications in areas from Engineering to Business Management, Computing and IT to Creative Media. With links to over 300 degree programs across Scotland you can study up to HND level, before then entering University in 2nd or 3rd year. You can also choose to leave college and then progress direct to the workplace with a qualification and relevant experience valued by employers. Talk delivered by Lauren Macaskill of North East Scotland College.

4. University

The choice of degree courses across the country is vast! To help you to narrow down what you might want to do, find out what school qualifications you might need, and see what life as a University student could be like – come to our presentation for more information. Talk to be delivered by Georgina Guest of Robert Gordon University.

5. Interview and Job Application

What should I wear to my interview? How do I prepare? What is an interviewer looking for? How can I make them choose me? What might I be asked? How should I prepare my CV? How can I highlight my strengths to the employers choosing who to employ? If these are questions you’ve asked yourself, from your first part-time job after school, College or University, get ahead of the rest by picking up some essential interview insights and job application skills from a local employer. Talk delivered by Sharon Robb of Aberdeen City Council.
