I am writing to introduce myself as the new Head Teacher here at Bucksburn Academy as I take up the position today. It is a tremendous privilege to be appointed to this role and I look forward to working with all parents, carers, pupils and staff to ensure that we continue to improve the good work of the school.
First of all, I would like to pay thanks to Mr Graham Blance for his term as Acting Head Teacher since September and for ensuring that I have had a smooth handover to this role. His support has been much needed and very welcome.
To give you all a little background into my career, I have been teaching for over 23 years, having started way back in 1994 splitting my time between Bankhead and St Machar Academies. Since then I have taught at Harlaw Academy and then Peterhead Academy before returning to the City at St Machar Academy. Here I became a Depute Head Teacher before moving to Kincorth Academy in September 2016 as Acting Head Teacher.
Leading Bucksburn Academy is a new challenge that I am thoroughly looking forward to. The school visits I have had have given me a sense of a school with a positive and welcoming ethos that encourages all to succeed and I will work alongside all in the community to continue and progress this. I firmly believe that the child must be at the centre of all our thinking and recognise the importance of parents and carers in ensuring the child’s aspirations can become reality. I also firmly believe in the power of the class teacher in being the ‘change agent’ that can help motivate young people to achieve and attain at the highest level – Together We Achieve.
I look forward to meeting some parents at our S3 Parents’ evening on Thursday and meeting others in the weeks and months come.
