Toward the end of the experience the Privates reflected upon their experiences as a whole;

“The overall week was amazing. Being in France and Belgium and visiting all the different places, listening to the stories and the music you see it in a completely different light. I didn’t really think too much about the massive number of deaths until you visit and see the size of the cemeteries. It was a truly wonderful experience and looking back on everything I’ve done and learnt, I think everyone should come and experience it.”

“Best week of my life. For the past five years or so my passion has been the Great War, and to see it all closeup really was a dream come true. I will never forget it. Nor will I forget the men who gave their lives for our country.”

The battalion safely crossed the North Sea, docked in Hull and are now making the journey northwards towards Aberdeen. Home to the Gordon Highlanders – Home to the 1st Bucksburn Pals Battalion.
