The meeting is an opportunity for parents of pupils with Additional Support Needs to come along and meet other parents and education professionals.
“Some pupils may have additional support needs because of, for example, disability, health, social or emotional factors either short term or throughout their learning journey.” (Curriculum for Excellence)
The meeting will start with tea / coffee, we will then move on to the themed presentations.
7:45 – 8:15: Catriona Sim, Manager, Family Information Service
The Family Information Service (FIS) provides information and advice on all services for children, young people and families. FIS is trying to improve the service they offer to parents and carers of children with additional support
needs. They are expanding their information and are re-developing their website to include a section for ASN information. FIS would like to provide a demonstration of the new website and find out if it would be a useful resource for you and your family.
8:15 – 8:45 Carron Douglas (Educational Psychologist), Jess Petrie (Support for
Learning Teacher) and Susan Strachan (Dyslexia North East) are providing a Dyslexia
The Educational Psychology Service along with other partners developed the Dyslexia Practice Guidelines. The Guidelines are based on good practice in the areas of assessment and intervention around dyslexia.
